One of the main reasons Aro chose Sulpicia as his mate was that she was far more clever than she let on and held an equal hunger for power.

Although she presents herself as unknowing and frivolous, she is actually quite intelligent and knowledgeable in political affairs. It is not uncommon for her to assist Aro in his plans, offering her own input, but ultimately keeping to the background and allowing him to take the full credit.
